There are four key elements that make up a label:
- Face Stock which is the material of the label that carries the imprint
- Adhesive which can be permanent or removable, making the label pressure sensitive
- Release Liner, a coated paper or film that protects the adhesive until the label is applied
- The Finish, which is the protective covering over the print, which could be a clear coating of varnish or a laminate
We address the first three elements in the following list of substrates, and have a selection of finishes following the substrates.
Digitalabel offers the following substrate types:
White BOPP with Permanent Adhesive is a 2.6 mil white polypropylene (BOPP) film that has excellent opacity as well as good strength and stiffness for automatic and hand-applied label dispensing. The water-based acrylic, general-purpose permanent pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) provides good adhesion to a variety of surfaces and offers good resistance to UV and plasticizers. This substrate conforms to Coalition of Northern Governors (CONEG) regulations Title 21 for indirect food contact.
Clear BOPP with Permanent Adhesive is
a 2 mil clear polypropylene. It is supplied with a clear,
geveral purpose acrylic adhesive which exhibits a balance
of high cohesive strength and adhesion to low surface-energy
substrates for lasting performance on squeezable containers.
It is specifically designed to wxhibit excellent wetout
characteristecs and short-term removability. Meets the requirements
of FDA 21 CFR175.105 for indirect food contact. It is supplied
on a 1.2 mil durable polyester liner suitable for high-speed
diecutting and stripping applications.
White Semi Gloss Paper with Permanent Adhesive
is a 55# semi gloss paper with a water-based acrylic general-purpose
permanent adhesive. It provides good adhesion to a variety
of surfaces. It is supplied on a 40# CK liner that is a
bleached calendared Kraft stock featuring high internal
strength, toughness and tear resistance.
White Semi Gloss Paper with Removable Adhesive is a 60# semi gloss paper with a general-purpose removable adhesive featuring moderate initial track and minimal adhesion build over time. It is supplied on a 40# CK liner that is a bleached calendared Kraft stock featuring high internal strength, toughness and tear resistance.
White Vinyl with Permanent Adhesive is
a 3.4 mil white flexible vinyl with a treated smooth matte
finish that has high durability and moisture resistance.
Typical end uses include: premium bumper stickers, outdoor
signs and packaging. It is also a great stock for industrial
markings. Custom quoting is available for this substrate.
The Finish
Gloss or Dull Varnish is a liquid coating, UV cured to a scuff resistance surface.
Glossy Clear Laminate is a High Gloss Polypropylene (BOPP), and is the most popular and the least expensive option. This finish offers excellent chemical and oil resistance, and meets specifications for the FDA file: 21 CFR 177.1520.
Matte Laminate is a matte, clear Polypropylene (BOPP) offering a low glare surface and excellent chemical and oil resistance.
